Within the framework of its international cooperation strategy, the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) has taken an important step toward expanding collaboration with Beijing Foreign Studies University, one of the leading higher education institutions of the People’s Republic of China with extensive experience in foreign language education.
To this end, a UNEC delegation paid a working visit to Beijing Foreign Studies University. The main objectives of the visit included exploring opportunities for the implementation of double degree programs, studying best practices in the use of artificial intelligence technologies in foreign language teaching, identifying areas for cooperation in this field, and facilitating mutual exchange of experience.
During the visit, the UNEC delegation held meetings with the senior leadership of Beijing Foreign Studies University, as well as with representatives of the Artificial Intelligence and Human Languages Laboratory, and the Schools of International Business, Chinese Language and Literature, Asian Studies, English and International Studies, and the Department of Azerbaijani Language. The delegation became closely acquainted with the activities and academic practices of these units.
Particular interest was shown in the work of the Artificial Intelligence and Human Languages Laboratory, which provides extensive opportunities for conducting AI-based research in the field of foreign languages; the experience of the School of International Business in implementing double degree programs with leading universities worldwide; and initiatives aimed at expanding the teaching of the Azerbaijani language in the People’s Republic of China.
The meetings were attended on behalf of UNEC by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Geray Musayev, Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs Nasimi Ismayilov, Deputy Director of the Center for Methodology and Quality Assurance in Teaching Navai Aliyev, Director of the Department of Foreign Languages Aysel Khalilova, and Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Department of Foreign Languages and Head of the Center for Foreign Language Teaching Aynur Mirzayeva. Beijing Foreign Studies University was represented by Vice-Rector Zhao Gang, Dean of the School of International Business Li Sifei, Dean of the School of Asian Studies Su Yingying, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Human Languages Laboratory Li Zuowen, Vice-Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature Wang Zulei, and Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language Agshin Aliyev.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the parties reached agreements on the development of double degree programs based on the integration of economics and linguistics, alignment of curricula, organization of academic staff and student exchange programs, and the preparation of joint projects focusing on the application of artificial intelligence technologies in foreign language research and teaching processes.
